Sax & Cats
The concept of this project led to the history of jazz and its common visuals. Aesthetics and visual concept of the album include blue, haze, light, excitement, and movement. The addition of cats represents the client’s strong ties to his cat whom he named after his late-grandfather. The music contains an essence of the new coming age of jazz, stepping away from your typical elevator type jazz. Thus, the audience is directed towards young people interested in jazz.
Research
In preliminary research, I referenced old jazz albums, posters, etc. This helped me find the right theme, color scheme, and typography.
Thumbnails
The thumbnails for this project include elements of the street, jazz instruments, mosaic themes and cats intertwined within it all.
Roughs
During this process, I experimented with layouts and typography on the outside gatefold of the vinyl covers in order to determine the style and aesthetics for the additional elements.
Tight Roughs
This process continued experimentation and moved onto finalization of concepts and designs.
