At some point in everyone’s life, they ask themselves the burning question: what’s my purpose? To that I answer, what’s the purpose of anything these days? For example, you could ask someone the purpose of a crayon and they may say to create or to draw. But there are so many things you could do with a crayon; you can transform it into wax art, change its appearance by sculpting it, or melt it and change its form. The same can be said for people. People have the ability to become so many different things, we have the ability to transform ourselves and choose who we want to be and what we want to do.
Personally, there are so many things I would like to do and see in my life. I feel so grateful for the opportunities and experiences that I have already had. I was a dancer, a figure skater, I traveled alone and studied in Spain, but there’s still so much more to do, more to learn, and more people to meet. I feel privileged to have met so many amazing people that have impacted my life. Even, my family and friends who surround me with their creative thoughts and interests in music, film, and art inspire me. I hope to spread that same passion and inspiration to anyone I meet.
When the time began to start university, I knew three things: I wanted to keep learning new information, be creative, and make an impact on people’s lives. I have always loved fashion and I would flip through magazines at my mother’s work while waiting for her. Going through each page and discovering something new was also so exciting. So, I walked into the office and declared myself a graphic design major. Little did I know what the graphic design world consisted of. Nearly everything! Everywhere you go there are elements where graphic design exists. Graphic design has the power to influence people’s lives and decisions. With that power, I hope to utilize it to help others and perhaps make a difference. There is so much that I hope to do in life and if I could make even a small impact on this world, I would consider that an accomplishment.
After two years in UCO’s School of Design, I feel that I have already learned so much and I cannot wait to see what is next. Being surrounded by my professors and peers each day, inspires me to be my best. I have also grown so much as a person over these past years. Growing up I was particularly shy and quiet, but now I am not afraid to speak my mind and ask for and provide help to others.
I believe that just like crayons, people are malleable. We are not meant to be one thing or have a singular desire. For me, in this moment, I want to be a graphic designer. Graphic design is something that encapsulates what I want to give back to the world: to help create, educate, and inspire others.
